This initiative is aimed at fostering rural development by connecting higher educational institutions with villages to address local development challenges.

Unnat Bharat Abhiyan was launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education) in India. The program encourages universities and colleges to adopt villages and collaborate with the local communities to identify and implement sustainable solutions for their socio-economic development.

Key objectives of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan include:

  1. Social Inclusion: Promoting inclusive development by involving all sections of the community, especially marginalized groups.

  2. Sustainable Development: Implementing projects that contribute to the long-term well-being of the community, focusing on environmental sustainability.

  3. Technology Transfer: Leveraging the expertise and resources of educational institutions to address local challenges and improve the quality of life in rural areas.

  4. Skill Development: Enhancing the skills and capabilities of the rural population through training and capacity-building initiatives.

  5. Empowerment: Empowering local communities by encouraging their active participation in decision-making processes related to development projects.

  6. Research and Innovation: Encouraging research and innovation that addresses the unique challenges faced by villagers.
